It is the second busiest airport in Canada by aircraft movements (306,799[1]) and passengers (22.3 million[1]), behind Toronto Pearson International Airport. It has non-stop flights daily to Asia, Europe, Oceania, the United States, Mexico and other airports within Canada. The airport has won several notable international best airport awards; it won the Skytrax Best North American Airport award in 2007 and 2010 through 2016.[4] The airport also made the list of top 10 airports in the world for the first time in 2012, rated at 9th (2012), 8th (2013), and 9th (2014) overall.[5] It is the only North American airport included in the top 10 for 2013 and 2014.[5][6][7][8] YVR also retains the distinction of Best Canadian Airport in the regional results.[9] It is a hub for Air Canada and WestJet. It is also an operating base for Air Transat. Vancouver International Airport is one of eight Canadian airports that have US Border Preclearance facilities. It is also one of the few major international airports to have a terminal for scheduled floatplanes. Vancouver International Airport is owned by Transport Canada[10] and is managed by Vancouver Airport Authority,[11] which also manages other airports around the world through its Vantage Airport Group subsidiary. History[edit] In 1929 the city of Vancouver purchased land on Sea Island for aviation purposes, replacing the original grass airstrip at Minoru Park. During World War II, the airports and its original terminal, now the South Terminal, were leased to the Federal government and operated by the Department of National Defence and the Department of Transport. The airport was used for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The crews and their families were housed in a new townsite on the island, named Burkeville after Boeing president Stanley Burke. Funds from the lease were used to purchase additional land for new hangars and a production plant for Boeing Aircraft of Canada[12] (now Boeing Canada). The present main terminal was completed in 1968 and has since been expanded to include separate domestic and international terminals. A north runway was completed in 1996.[citation needed] In 2011 the airport announced that it will enact a program aiming to encourage airlines to start more flights between Vancouver and Asia.[13] The term Pacific Gateway describes YVR for its proximity to Asia in relation to the rest of Canada, as well as the large Asian population and Canadian-Asian business connections in the region, make Vancouver International Airport the major gateway between Canada and Asia. It has more trans-Pacific flights than any other airport in Canada. __ Affiliate Disclosure: I may earn a commission for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial, and/or link to any products or services from the links above. Do you need to get to downtown Vancouver from the airport? Then please watch. We start off from the airport and pass through the international departures drop off area. You'll notice once we get going that some flowers are popping out of trees. This video was filmed in early March... As you get on the bridge that takes you to Granville street it's very important to get in the right lane (3:46). There's a small commercial area at the bottom of the Granville street and after that it's residential areas. These houses are some of the most expensive in Vancouver. Enjoy the mountains and the fairly simple route (basically you have to go straight) until we reach the Granville street bridge which takes us into downtown (11:28). The music was performed by Free Jazz Vancouver. We like to create music from scratch while watching these driving videos. The 2017 World Airport Awards ceremony was held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam on Tuesday 14th March 2017. The Awards event was attended by the Chairman, Presidents, CEO’s and top management from airports across the globe, recognising the importance of Skytrax Awards as the “Oscars of the aviation industry.” The World Airport Awards, "Oscars of the aviation industry", are the most prestigious accolades for world airports which are voted by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. The 2017 Awards are based on 13.82 million airport survey questionnaires completed by 105 different nationalities of airline customers during the survey period. The survey operated from July 2016 to February 2017, covering 550 airports worldwide and evaluating traveller experiences across different airport service and product key performance indicators - from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate. The World Airport Awards are a global benchmark of airport excellence, and widely known as the Passengers Choice Awards. The World’s Top 50 Airports 2017 1. artsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (IATA: ATL, ICAO: KATL, FAA LID: ATL), also known as Atlanta Airport, Hartsfield, or Hartsfield–Jackson, is an international airport located seven miles (11 km) south of Atlanta's central business district, in the U.S. state of Georgia. It has been the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998, and by number of landings and take-offs from 2005 to 2013, and in 2015. Hartsfield–Jackson held its ranking as the world's busiest airport in 2012, both in passengers and number of flights, by accommodating 100 million passengers (more than 260,000 passengers daily) and 950,119 flights. Many of the nearly one million flights are domestic flights from within the United States, where the airport serves as a major hub for travel throughout the southeastern region of the country. The airport has 207 domestic and international gates. Hartsfield–Jackson is the primary hub of Delta Air Lines and Delta Connection partner ExpressJet, and is a focus city for low-cost carriers Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines. With just over 1,000 flights a day, the Delta Air Lines hub is the world's largest hub.[8][9] Delta Air Lines flew 75.4% of the airport's passengers in February 2016, Southwest flew 9.2%, and American Airlines flew 2.5%. In addition to hosting Delta Air Lines corporate headquarters, Hartsfield–Jackson is also the home of Delta's Technical Operations Center, which is the airline's primary maintenance, repair and overhaul arm. The airport has international service within North America and to countries in South America, Central America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. As an international gateway to the United States, Hartsfield–Jackson ranks sixth. The airport is mostly in unincorporated areas in Fulton and Clayton counties. However, the airport spills into the city limits of Atlanta, College Park, and Hapeville. The airport's domestic terminal is served by MARTA's Red and Gold rail lines.

YVR also has direct flights to U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, Dallas, Palm Springs, Denver, Los Angeles. Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City and San Franciso. YVR has been marketing itself as a strong pacific gateway to Hawaii with direct flights to the Big Island, Oahu, and Maui. It's my favorite big city airport!! My favorite smaller airport? This is a ride on board The Canada Line - one of TransLink's rapid transit 'skytrain' routes - though this line is operationally separate from the other two lines in operation. The Canada Line opened in 2009 linking Downtown Vancouver with YVR Airport and Richmond in just 30 minutes. The line is operated with twenty LRV units built by Hyundai-Rotem with a maximum frequency of every three minutes (one train every six minutes to YVR Airport and one train every six minutes to Richmond). Most of the route is underground, from Marine Drive all the way to Waterfront. The route goes underneath Cambie street as far as Olympic Village, where we go into bored tunnel under False Creek and through Yaletown before running underneath Granville Street to Waterfront. Previously the rapid transit between Richmond and Downtown Vancouver was provided by the 98 B-Line bus, running along Seymour and Howe Streets in Downtown Vancouver, and along Granville Street and over the Arthur Laing and Moray Bridges via Airport Station.

Before arriving at the Airport you're probably not wondering why the airport is designed the way it is. Yet, everything you see in an airport has a purpose. Here’s our top 10 ways airports are designed the way they are, and the purpose of each design secret. Subscribe for more! ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedSubscribe ◄ Stay updated ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedFacebook https://twitter.com/BeAmazedVideos https://instagram.com/BeAmazedVideos ◄ For copyright queries or general inquiries please get in touch: beamazedvideos@gmail.com Credit: https://pastebin.com/Kfv3M9iu Be Amazed at... Signs - When you’re at the airport, you rely on the signs to point you in the right direction. Walkways - As you’ll see, the reason for many of these designs being the way they are is to prise as much money out of the traveller as possible. The golden hour - Still on moneymaking, let’s explain the concept of the ‘golden hour’. The ‘golden hour’ is what airport managers call the first hour after you’ve cleared security. Windows and lights - Modern airports tend to be designed with lots of glass, such as this one in Indianapolis. Everywhere you turn in new airports, there are huge windows. Departures and arrivals - In most airports, certainly the larger and more modern ones, arrivals is on the ground floor, and departures is on the floor above. Mobile - If you’ve travelled on a plane in the last few years, you’ll know you now have the option to do everything via your phone. Security - Airports are unfortunately prime targets for terrorists, with attackers hitting terminals in Belgium and Turkey over the last couple of years. Floors - Even the floors in airports are designed for a purpose. Firstly there’s wayfinding. In Atlanta , the floor tiles at check-in are coloured to lead you through the airport to the ticket counters. Art - Have you ever wondered why modern airports often contain giant works of art, like this one in Vancouver, or this one in Heathrow? There are many reasons. Queues - When you go to the airport, you’re going to have to queue. It’s a fact of life.
